Blanton B scene: Art is Physical

The Blanton Museum of Art (The University of Texas at Austin, MLK at Congress Ave.)
$5 for members, $10 for general public, 6-11pm

This month's B scene art party at the Blanton is celebrating the art of the human body. Austin's Foot Patrol will be performing live in the museum, followed by DJ George Michael Jackson. Admission to Friday's festivities also includes the opportunity to receive henna tattoos inspired by art from the Blanton's collection. Gallery staff will be on hand offering tours of the museum's exhibitions that focus on the use of the human figure in art. As always, patrons can enjoy free appetizers and refreshing drinks from the cash bar.

Although the museum is in the process of setting up new exhibits in some of their galleries, tonight's B scene offers an opportunity to see some installations that will soon be removed. Fabián Bercic's WorkSpace is a modern take on a Zen garden that was made out of resin specifically for the Blanton. Visit the museum and enjoy the colorful but serene garden-side seating area before the piece is removed later this month. Over in the European Prints and Drawings gallery, interpretations of Raphael's work exemplify his talent for depicting the human form. For those art appreciators with more macabre tastes, the Modern and Contemporary gallery's Disturbing Narratives features works with "grotesquely distorted, maimed, metamorphosed, or transgressive human figures".

Tickets to B scene are available online or at the museum. Tickets cost $5 for museum members and $10 for the general public.
