Snapshots: The Human Race Nike 10k

On August 31, 2008 The Human Race charity 10K organized by Nike was run in cities around the world, including here in Austin. In the Men’s division, Bernard Manirakiza originally from Burundi, Africa won the race with a time of 31:51. In 2nd place, Gilbert Tuhabonye also from Burundi finished a little over a minute after his cousin Bernard with a time of 32:56.

Melissa Christian, the winner in the Woman’s division, from Dallas, finished the warm, humid course in 37:35. “It was a really tough race, but I do like challenging courses,” Melissa said. “It was a big surprise to come in first!”

Following the race Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals treated the sweaty horde of runners to a celebratory set of his band's California surf-inspired jams.

If you can't view the Flash slideshow above, an alternate version appears after the jump.
