Benko CD Release Show @ Mohawk
Benko will be celebrating the release of their latest album, Welcome to the Follow Through tonight at the Mohawk, supported by drum duo Loudest Boom Bah Yea. This new work is a shimmering bit of indie pop excellence, engineered by Jim Eno and mastered by Erik Wofford. Featuring the songs of bassist and vocalist Erik Grostic, the guitar-as-vibe accompaniments of Sarah Norris, and the drumming of Aaron Dugan, Welcome to the Follow Through finds the band echoing delightful pop memories we grew up on: strains of Rainer Maria and Ida ooze through the carefully constructed songs. "The Eurohit" stands out as a proper first single and catchy radio tune, and though Norris' vibraphone is left to resonate through the tune in a peaceful manner, the rhythm section's driving beats force a toe tap or two. This feeling becomes a theme the further one gets into the album, with the low end staying dense, while pop harmonies and lilting vibes overlay. All in all, the band have reached a high ground, matching excellent production with catchy melodies and unique pop constructions.
Loudest Boom Bah Yea are a drum duo who call their work "pop music for two drum sets." Their (still in the works) new albumBooty Beats Fully Realized, is a chasm of percussive delights, reminiscent of ole great solo drummers like John McEntire and Ryan Rapsys. Their work is energetic, beat-driven and bump-worthy, and they'll be no-brainer crowd pleasers .
