Also out this week is Jorge Ben's Jorge Ben, a reissue well worthy of your interest. Fans of Brazilian samba and Tropicália take note: Ben's albums are treasures, and this one is no exception.
Tussle's latest finds the band capitalizing on their malleable drum and bass roots, reaching new heights with a pastiche of urban trends. The result is a sort of psychedelic dance album that flirts with organics while remaining staunchly electronic. Produced by Tom Monahan (Vetiver, Joanna Newsom, Silver Jews), the Cream Cuts deals listeners a bit of kraut, spacey atmospheres swirling around thick undercurrents and dense grooves. The band, now comprised of Jonathan Holland (drums & electronics), Nathan Burazer (electronics), Warren Huegel (drums) and new addition Tomonori Yasuda (bass & electronics), but was recorded with former bassist Andy Cabic, who is perhaps best known for his work with Vetiver. Since beginning work on the record, the band has been on a whirlwind of tours, including stints with Hot Chip and YACHT. They're definitely an act to watch as 2009 approaches, and if you aren't familiar with their previous work, it comes highly recommended as well.
