As for the future, Livingstone states “We have been working on recordings for our next release. We've got a great new batch of songs and I think they'll create a great group as an album. If everything works according to our current schedule, it should be out sometime in 2011.” We also gathered (from In Music We Trust Records’ website) that the band is quite adamant about their methods when recording music -- “There is no faking rock 'n' roll for Grand Champeen. The strings are real. The horns are real. The piano is real. Every guitar solo was played live. Every bass part, vocal harmony, and every hit of the drum - nothing was moved or manipulated. It is what it is.” Check out the magic, live in concert this Friday at Room 710; Grand Champeen can be counted on to bust out a cover or two to boot, as evidenced by a set-list from a show in April of this year.
Also on Friday, Yelp’s Hot Night in the City shindig takes place at Buffalo Billiards with DJ Mel furnishing the beats, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang providing further entertainment, and Annie Ray capturing all the shenanigans in her infamous photo-booth. Check out our preview for The Laughing’s EP release show tonight at Club de Ville here.

The Scoot Inn hosts a medley of acts on Saturday at (the 2nd annual) Rock ‘N’ Roll Circus, kicking of at 8 p.m. with Rebecca’s Ragtime Revue inside. The festivities then move outside for an assortment of entertainment courtesy of Little Stolen Moments, Mistress Stephanie and Her Melodic Cat, Foot Patrol, Laura Phelan, and Big Star Burlesque. Ben Schave will MC the bash; headliners (and Tom Waits fans) The Box Spring Hogs are scheduled to start (inside) at 12:30 a.m. We’re big fans of Foot Patrol and had to take this opportunity to obtain some quick updates from the band. As per Hung Nguyen, Foot Patrol is (naturally) excited about an upcoming “Prince Nite” at Scoot Inn on September 13th where the band can be expected to provide some scintillating renditions of material from the Minnesota legend’s catalog of work. Additionally, we can look forward to a Foot Patrol CD release show on October 18th.
Migas and Oh, Beast! bring unbridled mayhem and cacophonous brilliance to Beauty Bar on Saturday, with Ian Orth at the helm in the DJ booth at the 7th St. hotspot; Beta Valentine at The Parlor and Suncopters at Trophy’s are two other Saturday evening shows worth noting (and attending).
If you are not on board for our Summer Extrav-o-ganza 3 voyage, the Austin Chronicle’s 18th annual Hot Sauce Festival is this Sunday as well at Waterloo Park from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. boasting music from Black Joe Lewis & the Honey Bears and The Jungle Rockers, among others.
