Roman Polanski: the original Creepy Joe? Any sympathy points the man may have racked up after his pregnant wife was murdered by the Manson Family were kinda obliterated by his fleeing the country after being accused of doping a thirteen-year-old with half a Quaalude (this was the 70s, after all) and then taking advantage of her. (He also slipped a bit on the movie-making front, moving from the fantastic Chinatown to the ridiculous The Ninth Gate - though The Pianist was a bit of redemption.)

However, Marina Zenovich's documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, which plays at the Alamo this weekend and next week, looks at the 1978 "incident" through somewhat sympathetic eyes, questioning the motivations of the judge and the press in hyping up the story.
