Barton Springs Poolside Live with Alex Coke on Saturday

PoolSide Live at Barton Springs

Zilker Park (2100 Barton Springs Road)

[info]
Cool off on Saturday night at Barton Springs pool for Poolside Live, which will feature the soothing sounds of local saxophonist and flutist Alex Coke with his trio. All ages are welcome, and it's a Full Moon night, which means you're invited to howl with the crowd. Get there at 9 p.m. and don't pay a dime, and if you're a tad early don't sweat it (figuratively, no one can save you from the literal version), you'll just be out three bucks. The music will be from 8:15 - 9:45 p.m.

Not a bad price for an evening performance from one of Austin's most well-known and loved jazz musicians. An original member of the Austin-based Creative Opportunity Orchestra, Coke has been performing in Austin on and off for 20 years. A regular collaborator with Tina Marsh and a touring musician with Dutch jazz group the Willem Breuker Kollektief, Coke has earned his spot in the annals of Austin jazz greats. These days, you can find him performing with the Golden Hornet Project's Russian Masters: Classical Hoot Nite gigs at Beerland, providing the crowd with eclectic versions of Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and others. His most recent release is Wake Up DeadMan/Iraqnophobia, and can be purchased through the VoxLox Records web site.
