Austinist Show Preview: Toots and the Maytals At Antone's

Legends come to Austin like it ain't no thang. We have the tendency to take it for granted, actually. We can remember, for instance, during last year's ACL fest, hearing an anecdote from a friend who caught Bono and Bob Motherfucking Dylan shopping together incognito at the Randall's on Lake Austin, having an animated discussion regarding whether or not to purchase the real Baco-bits or the crunchy fake ones (we speculate). Two of the most famous people in the history of rock - nay, the WORLD. But even though our eyebrows were raised, for some reason, it didn't faze us.

Enough rumination, though. We've got a another legend to welcome. Toots and The Maytals are going to be gently swinging the asses at Antone's tonight, and your ass needs to be in that crowd. Sorry SRV, but this music is truly the soundtrack to all things Austin. You haven't lived until "Pressure Drop" comes on the jukebox at The Deep Eddy Cabaret, you're fresh from a swim, baked like a potato, and three pitchers of Lone Star deep. As that distinctive bass line heightens your buzz, you realize it all gonna be ok... No bones about it,Toots Hibbert's influence cannot be overstated. The man is a seminal icon in the reggae slash R&B community, and has been playing out relentlessly for over four decades. It only makes sense that he should come to ATX, where people get high as the heliosphere and listen to reggae like it's their job. Come to think of it, for some people, it actually is their job. So here's lookin' at you, Half Of Austin! Louisiana bad boys Outlaw Nation open.
