The Faint emerged out of the Omaha music scene in the 90’s as Norman Bailey, an outfit that included quite a few of the current members, as well as fellow Nebraska luminary Conor Oberst. The band changed its name to The Faint and eventually sifted its way towards electro-rock by the turn of the century, duly equipping our dance parties for years with anthems like “Your Retro Career Melted” and “I Disappear.”

After a number of stellar releases on Saddle Creek, The Faint have decided to take things into their own hands. The band self produced their latest effort Fasciination, even refurbishing their new recording studio themselves. Last Tuesday, they released the album on their brand new blank.wav label -- Fasciination highlights The Faint’s penchant for bouncy dance-punk, and features their trademark synth driven glossy new wave ditties that often contain futuristic overtones and dark lyricism.

Check out the video for their brand new single “The Geeks Were Right” via their official website, and catch the band live in concert this Monday at La Zona Rosa. Jaguar Love and Shy Child open; doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Jaguar Love's Take Me To The Sea (and Stereolab's Chemical Chords) will be released on August 19th and Beauty Bar is hosting an advance listening party for both records this Friday. Prince Klassen DJ set to boot; stay tuned for more details on this event on Austinist later this week.
