You Say Tomato, I Say Sorry About That Whole Salmonella Thing. We Good?

Tomato Festival
Saturday, August 9
Whole Foods Downtown (525 N Lamar)
Noon-4 p.m.
[info]

Someday, farmers will look back and remember the summer that nobody ate tomatoes because they were afraid of salmonella poisoning, and then it turned out that it probably wasn't the tomatoes after all, and they'll just laugh and laugh and laugh. Chances are, that won't be this summer though, as the tomato industry has lost in excess of $100 million because of that little false alarm.

In response, Whole Foods Market is hosting a tomato festival tomorrow from Noon until 4 p.m. to throw their support the way of growers and welcome back the wrongly maligned fruit. The event will showcase cooking and prep ideas and feature demos and samplings throughout the store. And, oh yeah, wine pairings!
