On the Latin/Rock combination front, one cannot forget the pioneering work of Maneja Beto, (currently on break for the PhD work of Alex Chavez).  LOCAL bastions of Mexican cross-genre brilliance.

Also, check out the wonderful (and personal favorite) style called &quot;SON&quot; (or Huapango) from the Huasteca Region frequently typified by small groups of guitar, harp, and vocals. Beautiful and heart-wrenching.
