Fashion Notes: Prototype Vintage Relaunch, Blue Velvet Moving Sale, Naughty Secretary Club's New Book, and DIY Designers Wanted

  • Having recently merged with La Luz Home and Fashion (formerly on South 1st), Prototype Vintage on South Congress has undergone considerable interior and exterior renovations. The expanded furniture and fashion gallery now features "vintage and vintage inspired furniture, lighting, art, textiles, paper goods, clothing, jewelry, accessories" and more, all in a space that they're touting as "eco-friendly." Join them this First Thursday for the official 'Launch Pad Party', with an op-art photo booth, snack rations, and "sputnik space bar." • West Campus vintage haven Blue Velvet is relocating to North Loop, next door to Epoch Coffee, and before they pack up and leave they'd like to clear out as much store inventory as possible. Through the rest of August, they'll be dropping deeper and deeper discounts on everything in the shop—everything is 20% off from today through August 9th, 30% from August 10-16th, 50% from August 17-23, and so on—until August 30, when all remaining items will be priced at one dollar. • Stitch producer Jennifer Perkins, aka Naughty Secretary Club, recently published her first book. Naughty Secretary Club: The Working Girls Guide to Handmade Jewelry features dozens of DIY how-to projects, made from stuff like tin typewriters, rulers, doll house furniture, and garden gnomes. Perkins will be hosting a book release party at Craft-o-Rama on August 30th. [Naughty Secretary Club Blog]

  • Treasure City Thrift Store, in conjunction with iLoveMikeLitt (the folks behind the Veggie Hot Dog Eating Contest), is hard at work on the second annual "Recycled Fashion Show," taking place in early October. The all-recycled show's guiding concept, says its creators, is creative reuse of materials. They're looking for designers to enter collections with a minimum of 3 outfits, all of which should be fashioned from old clothes. Anyone interested should check the website for details.
