Show Preview: Tangled Snark Summer Party @ Monarch Event Center

In a classy joint like the Monarch Event Center in Austin, a place which sometimes houses career fairs, ice balls and the occasional fund raiser, Saturday night six of Austin’s finest musical undertakings will perform for a little more than a dollar a band. All different forms of local rock will be represented, from pop to experimental to garage to countrified indie rock to other at the Tangled Snark Summer Party. Hey, rock and roll can be classy.

And who doesn’t like summer parties? Not Zookeeper. Chris Simpson and his large group of revolving-door, melodramatic indie rockers obviously dig a good sweltering soiree. Bill Baird and the rest of the crew of {{{Sunset}}}? Why, they dig a rowdy August affair with their electric pianos, pedal steel and atmospheric lullabies. Loxsly, being the purveyors of indie pop that they are, couldn’t possibly say no to a mid-summer smash. What do the familiar, old rock and roll sounds of simplistic backing choruses behind jangling guitars have to do with a fiery function like this? Plenty according to Wine and Revolution. Frank Smith’s catchy swagger and twang and the Sad Accordions’ winding, affective tunes do their part to ring in this summer party as well. However, they shed absolutely no light on what a “Tangled Snark” is.
