Giveaway: Jay Reatard at Red 7 Sunday

Why one of punk's greatest living songwriters continues to use a goofy stage name he came up with when he was 15 is a mystery for the ages. Then there's the mushy English accent, the infatuation with cock-rockin' Flying V guitars... But the man his mother knows as Jay Lindsey has spent over a decade recording symphonic lo-fi pop punk almost entirely by himself--his discography on Wikipedia runs about three pages--so we can assume there's some kind of method at work. Jay's visionary debut LP Blood Visions has been gathering word-of-mouth momentum since its release in 2006, to the point that corporate megalith Universal Music Group briefly courted Mr. Lindsey, surely thinking they had the next Billy Idol on their hands. Jay wound up signing with NY/Austin-based indielith Matador, which has so far issued three of a planned six limited-edition 7" Reatard singles this year, with a new full-length expected in 2009. Jay pays a visit to Red 7 this coming Sabbath, and seriously, you have never seen so many Flying Vs in your life.
