Come on out tonight to see what may be the most interesting event the Church of the Friendly Ghost has hosted at their year-long residency at The Salvage Vanguard Theater. While the Tuesday night events the Church has held so far have ranged from completely offbeat to downright accessible and everywhere in-between, tonight’s act is really special in that in should bridge both those worlds in an exciting, active, and large-scale way.

But before we get to that, congratulations are in order. The Church were recently awarded a grant from the MetLife Arts Foundation called “Meet the Composer," which is what made it possible for them to host this performance by Chris Schlarb here in Austin. Don’t know Chris Schlarb? Well, he’s a composer and musician out of Long Beach and his debut album, Twilight and Ghost Stories, is “a dense 40-minute modern composition featuring a disparate cross-section of musicians from the avant-garde, independent folk, jazz and electronic communities," according to his label Asthmatic Kitty, home of eclectic superstars like Castanets, Sufjan Stevens, and My Brightest Diamond.

Schlarb will be performing the piece with a who's-who of Austin experimental and improvisational musicians. Both Aaron Russell and Nick Hennies of The Weird Weeds are part of the troupe, as are Bill Baird of {{{Sunset}}} and percussionist Chris Cogburn.

It promises to be a very exciting evening for our music community and for the Church, so if you’ve found yourself vacillating in the past about attending one of their performances, this is the one to see. Ten dollars gets you admission and a copy of Twilight and Ghost Stories, and Arrarat Mediterranean Catering will have various foodstuffs available.

Follow the jump for a full list of players and more information.
