Austinist Photo Essay: Hello Dolly!

*Editor's Note: Every Wednesday, we will be bringing you a set of photographs taken by our photo essay staff. Any opinions conveyed via the photographs or commentary are those of the essayist and are not representative of Austinist as a whole.*
The following has been provided by essayist Gregory Cooper, who has just returned from volunteering in the Hurricane Dolly relief effort.

While self explanatory, these images do show that the hurricane was not biased. Wind damage and flooding is very apparent and was rampant from South Padre Island to Harlingen to San Benito.
Having been through many hurricanes and a devastating flood when stationed as a Marine in Virginia, this hit home for me. Texas really has their stuff together when it comes to disaster relief (compared to the East Coast). Power companies traveled to the area in convoys from all over Texas to help get the power turned on. H-E-B had food trucks mobilized - handing out food, ice and water.
After going through this experience in two other states, I felt good about how quickly Texas responded for those in the Rio Grande Valley. - Gregory Cooper
