These Are Politics: Clerk of the Court

Bush fades from media spotlight

Columnist Ben Feller reported on Sunday that George Bush received half as much media attention in the first four months of 2008 as he did in 2007. The article states that, in June, Bush was the subject of just 113 news stories compared to Barack Obama’s 690 stories and John McCain’s 263 stories.

Despite his lackluster major media performance, George Bush is still the subject of nearly 100% of Volkswagen bumper stickers and represents the butts of more than 60% of the jokes told by terrible stand-up comedians.

Obama gives campaign speech in Berlin

Presidential candidate Barack Obama gave a speech to a crowd of more than 200,000 in Berlin on Friday as part of an international tour that the Senator has called a fact-finding mission. The speech underscored Obama’s desire to reach out to foreign leaders and was delivered in front of Berlin’s Victory Column, a monument that stands over 200 feet tall and was built to commemorate Prussian victory in the Danish-Prussian war.

Obama decided against delivering the speech in German, opting instead to speak each word slowly and to use his arms and legs to act out active phrases like “running for president.”

McCain suggests Nuremberg-like tribunal for bin Laden

Senator John McCain suggested on Friday that Osama bin Laden be tried through an international tribunal, much like the trials held for prominent members of the Nazi party in Nuremberg, Germany from 1945 to 1949. The Senator and presumptive republican presidential nominee said that an international trial would “reveal to the world the enormity of [bin Laden’s] crimes.”

McCain was reluctant to provide more specific insight before consulting with his legal advisers, claiming that his last direct involvement in a legal proceeding was as a Clerk of the Court in the Salem Witch Trials.
