Although the installation for the 2009 Texas Biennial doesn't begin until March, event organizers are hosting a summer dance party fundraiser to help support the growing scope of the exhibition. The Hot Fun in the Summertime dance party will take place at the Victory Grill on Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
As all great dance parties should, Hot Fun in the Summertime will host a dance-off, with tunes to be provided by local bands {{{SUNSET}}} and VC Chldkrft, followed by beats in the form of a long DJ set from MEN-R-G. Multimedia video collective Austin Video Bee will be showing some of their work, including videos from artist and photographer Ben Aqua. Various local businesses and art organizations have donated items that will be raffled off through out the evening.
As in years past, the 2009 Biennial will present a group exhibition of work from artists juried from open submissions. They will also continue to provide educational programing, and host special events around town. For this coming spring's festivities, the Biennial will feature four solo exhibitions awarded to individual artists representing the North, South, East, and West regions of Texas. Also new for 2009, the organizers have collaborated with the City of Austin to exhibit temporary outdoor projects in public spaces through out the city.
