Austinist Weekend Music Preview: Eric Hisaw, Yuppie Pricks, & The Dirty Hearts celebrate CD releases!

Austinist Indieroke upstairs in The Green Room at The Mohawk is naturally our number one recommendation for a Friday night out on town but we cannot ignore the other quality shows in our fine city on the same evening. Beloved indie-rock outfit Wolf Parade hits the stage at La Zona Rosa nice and early in the evening so as to allow you to make the timely trek across downtown to The Mohawk for Indieroke after their set. The Canadian act is touring in support of their second full-length, At Mount Zoomer, released last month on Sub Pop Records.

There are a couple of CD release shows on Friday worth noting -- Eric Hisaw drops Nature of the Blues at Jovita’s while the Yuppie Pricks ooze snotty punk in the form of Balls at Beauty Bar. The New Drugs, a Huey Lewis and the News tribute band, opens for the Pricks. Club de Ville hosts a Party Ends event with music from the likes of The Always Already and 'Til We're Blue Or Destroy. Other alternatives on Friday include Aesop Rock at Emo’s (Outside) and Sons Of Hercules at Room 710.

On Saturday, the Monarch Event Center continues its recent trend of supplying north-central Austin with quality weekend gigs. A who’s who of local luminaries and up-and-comers such as Ume, Ringo Deathstarr, Haunting Oboe Music, Red X Red M, Follow That Bird!, and Hey, Zeus comprise the line-up this evening and should make for a riveting show. The Monarch Event Center is located at 6406 N. I-35, Ste. 3100, 78752; doors open at 7 p.m.

Also on Saturday, The Dirty Hearts play Emo’s (Lounge) to mark the release of their brand new Pigs record. Pigs offers up swaggering rock songs and gritty guitar riffs aplenty but also softer numbers like “Miss Me” and the saxophone flavored “Cold Feet” as well as many organ spiced tracks like “Where I Come From” and “T-Bone,” and all in all, bestows a well-rounded rock ‘n’ roll record upon us.

Going out to dinner with that special someone on Saturday night? Hit up the mighty tasty BBQ at Lamberts and stick around for the live music when The Noise Revival Orchestra Experience (Le Diamant Brut) and The Unbearables bring a multitude of instrumentation, along with the requisite number of band members needed (there's a lot!), as they implement their epic and exquisitely arranged compositions.

The best of the rest of Saturday action includes Tia Carrera, Oh, Beast!, and Attack Formation at Beerland; Killer Mike at The Parish; New Disaster and High Watt Crucifixers at Room 710; and Your Kisses Cause Crashes, Mostly Bears, Living Better Electrically, and Rescue Mission at Emo’s (Inside).

On Sunday, there is a 91.7 FM KOOP Radio benefit show at the United States Art Authority with live music from Peel and La Snacks (among others). If you have already bought a raffle ticket, you may also be the lucky winner of a brand new Scooter courtesy of Scooter Revolution on Sunday night! As per KOOP, “The scooter to be raffled gets 85+ miles to the gallon, is inexpensive to ensure, and incurs low maintenance costs. Proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets and the party will benefit KOOP Radio in its efforts to rebuild after the arson in January.” It all kicks off at 4 p.m.

If you still have oodles of energy in store when Sunday evening arrives, you will not want to miss the Pillow Fight Club at Beauty Bar. Apparently, you do tell everyone about Pillow Fight Club and you can also wear a sweet Alice in Chains shirt.
