City Hall Now a "Certified Wildlife Habitat"

The snarky jokes about political animals and the like nearly write themselves, but the headline is true: Austin's City Hall has been designated a "certified wildlife habitat" by the National Wildlife Federation.

The use of native plants, the waterfall and pond, and the spaces between limestone blocks that give shelter to small birds and animals all contributed to the building area receiving the designation.

Austin is working with the NWF to have the whole city named a "Community Wildlife Habitat" through a Wildlife Austin program, where neighborhoods create homes for wildlife and earn points toward the city becoming a certified habitat.

Considering all the snakes, weasels and vultures that inhabit City Hall, this is hardly surprising.
