Austinist Show Preview: Team Gina at the Chain Drive

Team Gina at the Chain Drive
Friday, July 18
The Chain Drive (504 Willow)
$3, 21+, 8 p.m.
[info]

This Thursday, the beat-bumping and unmistakably gay Team Gina puts out their first record Products of the Eighties, and there’s no better coming out party, so to speak, as a sweaty Friday night show at The Chain Drive. Crafting busy retro-dance jams in the vein of Nicky Click or Gravy Train!!!!, Team Gina couldn’t give their album a more spot-on title – musical influences include Kris Kross, Milli Vanilli and Salt ‘n Pepa (yeah!), and their songs namedrop Thundercats and shoulder pads.

If you enjoyed the spectacle that was Leslie & the Ly’s at Trophy’s this past October, or you otherwise like your songs with tickly synthesizers and big, shout-along choruses, this group has your number. Consisting of two Ginas – Gina Bling and Gina Genius – these two have kicked it onstage with the aforementioned Leslie & her Ly’s, The Go! Team and Northern State. Follow the jump for a glimpse of what to expect.

I'll be sure to swing by American Apparel before hitting this show. And sharing the stage with "Northern State" is hardly a ringing endorsement.

Perhaps not, main-man J, but no one likes a fussbudget am i right?!

I'll give you a ride in my time machine set to so last year.
