Nels Cline Giveaway: The Avant Romantic Plays Sunday at Stubb's

This unassuming-looking man on the right is Nels Cline, an extraordinarily talented guitarist who seemed destined to drift in and out of pop music's subconscious with avant jazz's finest and punk rock's most legendary. A couple years ago, however, Cline made the leap into the relative mainstream, joining Jeff Tweedy and Wilco. He's featured in the Kicking Television film and toured with the band to support their latest record, Sky Blue Sky.

Despite the rock'n'roll fantasy being lived out on that stage, he continues to work on his own material -- a more experimental endeavor that fuses his punk and noise tendencies with his revolutionary improv skills -- and he's in town on Sunday with the Singers to demonstrate. It's hard to explain what an opportunity this is for fans of the instrument, and in Stubb's intimate indoors stage, Cline is sure to astound and amaze. Considering his presence in the music scene has extended past the 20 year mark, $13 bucks seems incredibly reasonable, but if you're not sure, enter the contest and test your luck for a pair of free passes.
