Music News & Notes: Daytrotter, Bookery, Exits & Maida Vale

  • As ever, the Daytrotter.com crew acknowledges all Austin has to offer in the way of incredible music. This week, they're featuring a session by Bill Baird's {{{Sunset}}}, featuring an unreleased tune called "Loveshines, Part II".
  • But they don't limit themselves to songs these days. While you're over there, check out a bookery session with Shearwater's Jonathan Meiburg, who reads from The Wind in the Willows and Peter Mattiessen's The Tree Where Man Was Born, as well as from his personal collection, held over from his days as a recovery specialist for a credit card company.
  • Joe Gross has a follow up interview with Will Matthews, founder of the EXIT music festival that took place over Fourth of July weekend. In case you hadn't heard, the festival was cut short due to lack of attendance (and water for the bands), and Matthews talked to Gross about future plans, financial responsibility, and reputation. Might we suggest an art director too?
  • Local legend Pinetop Perkins turned 95 this month, and KUT's Andy Uhler celebrated his legacy at Texas Music Matters' blog.
  • Some awesome Summer Mixtape is free for you to download.
  • Austin misses White Denim. At least the BBC is getting a taste. Scroll down to hear a few WD tracks, including "Goldilocks" -- recorded during a Maida Vale studio session.
  • The Austin Music Foundation has another bootcamp (Web 2.0: Effective Strategies
for Online Promotion) on Monday evening at Scholz Garten. More info on their site, the discussion is free to all.
