Austinist Giveaway: Kidnapped by Craigslist

As Austinist readers know, there's plenty of weird, amusing stuff to be found on Craigslist. Plunking around in the latest posts can be a terrific way to kill an hour or six. Katie Goan and Nitra GutiĆ©rrez must agree, since they wrote an entire play about it. Following a successful run last year in New York, they've adapted Kidnapped By Craigslist for an Austin audience, using recent, austin.craigslist posts to create a thoroughly local version of the script. The good people at Shrewd Productions are responsible for bringing the show to the Violet Crown— it hits the stage at the Blue starting tonight, with a cast of ringers and a top-notch production team.

The story is pretty simple, but in the playwrights' words, "Want to buy a couch? Find a date? Complain about your roommate? Your boss? Your sketchy neighbor that sleeps in his doghouse? Combining actual postings from the Austin website with scripted material, Kidnapped by Craigslist tells the true stories locked inside an online community that has shaped and inspired today's internet generation, and explores the carnivalesque, cult-like phenomenon that is Craigslist." Sounds like fun to us!

With that in mind, all you CL junkies, heads up. Score a pair of free tickets for tonight's performance (opening night!) or Friday's performance by entering below. Both shows are at 8 p.m.

[Congratulations to our winners!]

If you didn't win, tickets can be had online for a reasonable $12-25 (sliding scale), or you can reserve seats by calling 927-1118 x1.
