Austinist Show Preview: The Watermarks & Ringo Deathstarr @ Beauty Bar

A weekend night at Beauty Bar is never without dance floor mayhem; the unending beats are usually provided either by a top notch DJ or an exhilarating electro-pop act.

Houston's The Watermarks fall into the latter category, and they're bringing their synth-dance-rock to the Austin club this Wednesday to gauge the level of energy a week night at the venue may generate. The Watermarks are tailor-made to outfit any party with their blend of unadulterated vigor, scorching six-strings, grooving basslines, and thumping beats. Their cover of Prince’s “When You Were Mine” is sure to be hit with audiences. The Watermarks could easily charm crowds at rock shows as well. Tracks like “I Used To Be Your Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Shut Down” are as noisy as they are glistening, and balance the synth output perfectly with fuzzy and distorted guitars. The band has opened for the likes of British Sea Power and Film School in the past, and just last Saturday, they were on a bill headlined by Andrew W.K. and The Octopus Project.

This Wednesday, The Watermarks will be supported by Ringo Deathstarr’s stirring shoegaze psychedelia. Headed by Houston Beaumont transplant Elliott Frazier, Ringo Deathstarr has one stellar EP under its belt, and is currently rehearsing new songs, with a trip to the recording studio planned for late July. Frazier also informs us that a video for “Sweet Girl” (off the aforementioned EP) is in the works.
