Local filmmaker Bradley Beesley will be at the Alamo tonight to screen and chat about his films Okie Noodling II, and Summercamp! Noodling, (about the revived sport of hand-fishing) was shot in Oklahoma in the late '90s, and won the 2001 Audience Choice award at SXSW, as well as first runner up for Best Documentary. Noodling II is the follow-up. Why see a movie about people your grandmother calls “Bubbas”? We say, "why not?" But if in doubt, consider the custom-made score by fellow Oklahomans, The Flaming Lips.
Summercamp!, directed by Beesley and Sarah Price (American Movie), is bringing the summer camp to the city. The film, shot at Swift Nature Camp in Wisconsin, shows what being a kid at camp is about. Take Cameron, who writes letters home asking to be rescued, or Spencer, who reads 1300 pages of Tom Clancy like it’s the man’s last book.
Whether you’re nostalgic for the days of your wet, hot American summer, or would like to vicariously experience the benefits of hand fishing without leaving the A/C, head to the Alamo Ritz tonight.
Trailers after the jump.
