Maker Faire Austin Call For Inventions

Maker Faire 2008
Auditions: Sunday, July 20th
Festival: October 18-19
Austin Children’s Museum (201 Colorado St)
Auditions from 1-5 p.m.
[info]
Last year's inaugural Maker Faire Austin proved to be an enormous success, drawing some 20,000 attendees and earning much-deserved praise among local D-I-Y enthusiasts.

This year, they're hoping to build on last year's buzz and create an event bigger and better festival — and they'd like your help. Folks from Make magazine, which puts on Maker Faire, will be coming to town next month to check out what nifty gadgets and gizmos you've been working on. Judging from last year's display, just about anything that's creative and has that certain "wow"-factor is potential Maker Faire material.

“We’re looking for anyone who has something fun to share, something they’ve made with their hands,” said Dale Dougherty, Publisher & Editor of Make magazine. “It can be practical or impractical—it could be something simple like a creative Halloween costume or maybe some handmade jewelry. Or it could be something wild like a bike with ten wheels, or a dog-powered lawn mower. Whatever it is, the more creative and imaginative, the better!”

Check out last year's announcement for some examples of ideas that they're particularly keen on. If and when you're ready to schedule an audition, contact event director Sherry Huss.

After the jump, we've reposted photos by Romain Nayalkar and Aaron Haley, taken at last year's event.

Austinist is proud to return as a media sponsor of Maker Faire Austin.
