- Citizen Cope (aka Clarence Greenwood) will give an acoustic solo performance at Hogg Auditorium on Oct 10, 2008. Buy tickets via UTPAC or by calling 512-477-6060 beginning on Friday, June 27.
- To celebrate the release of Workout Holiday, Austin's White Denim shared a mixtape at Drowned in Sound. They're touring Europe at the moment, but we'll keep you posted regarding future Austin shows -- it's been awhile, we're getting restless too.
- Alejandro Escovedo's new record, Real Animal comes out today. Geeks: the vinyl edition has a cover of the Stooges' "I Got a Right". If you missed him on the Today Show this morning, catch him this weekend at the Keep Austin Weird Fest. (Details below)
- The Austin Live Music Task Force is collecting information about the problems faced by members of the music community that the City might be able to help with. This survey closes on June 30, so use this time to make your opinions heard: Take the Survey. For more information on the Task Force, read the City Council Resolution that created it.
- ... And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead have signed with Justice Records, and have announced a new album due in January of 2009. The band is apparently thrilled to be leaving Interscope and returning to their indie roots, Conrad Keely noting that the move will “... allow us to seek the creative freedom envisioned by the founding fathers of our great nation, immune from the tyranny of the corporate ogre.”
- Austin Sound profiled Foot Patrol, a band that has intrigued us previously. They're performing at the Tiniest Bar in Texas this weekend - don't miss it.
- On Friday night at the Parish, Mystic (Oakland) will be performing with LD and Ariano and others. Mystic was nominated for a Grammy in 2001 for her song "W", and has been touring Europe this year preparing for her new record. Check out her video for "The Life".
- Austin's Black & White Years have a handful of free downloads up over at RCRDLBL. They'll also be performing two shows this weekend aways north in Dallas/Denton. Don't worry, they'll be back next week, and doing a live in-studio at KUT 90.5 on July 3.
- The 6th Annual Keep Austin Weird Festival is happening this Saturday at Auditorium Shores. Among other events (like a 5K run, ugh), there will be performances by Alejandro Escovedo, What Made Milwaukee Famous & Black Joe Lewis and the Honey Bears. For tickets or to volunteer, visit their site.

Wait, what? Justice's slogan is "Freeing the slaves one master at a time," yet at the bottom of their Web page is the little logo of one of those masters, Universal Music Group (who, coincidentally, own Trail of Dead's old master Interscope). Oops, Ben Franklin is crying.
I love these Local Music News & Notes posts, great stuff!
recheck the pitchfork post you cribbed your indignation from, justice records is distributed by universal, not owned by it.
