While it’s an established fact that The Church of the Friendly Ghost can be relied upon for the unusual, the unabashed, and the extreme – everything from noise bands to crazy projectionists to avant-jazz trios have showed up on the Salvage Vanguard’s stage these last few months – sometimes they like to surprise by pulling a sharp turn right into accessibility, charm and simplicity. And that’s what we can expect for Tuesday night’s show, four bands who stray from the beaten path enough to keep you interested but who are also mostly avant-garde tomfoolery-free.

The Lovely Sparrows, who play first at 9 p.m., have been gigging around Austin and releasing records with Abandoned Love Records for a few years now. Their folksy indie-pop goes down easy, and they’re primed to add another record to their ourevere – Bury the Cynics, hopefully available soon.

Fiction makes anthemic, sing-along post rock (if you can imagine that), and likewise combines eclectic live instrumentation and sampled beats. Infinite Partials follow at 10:40 p.m., combining an almost New Age bent with the songwriting of the equally spiritually minded artist Cat Stevens. Their live show should include viola, djembe and cello, making for an uncommonly classical listening experience.

Last, the crazed, possibly intoxicated cow-punk snarl of Country Willie & The Cosmic Debris will close the evening, effectively shredding whatever calm and contemplation the Infinite Partials may have instigated with their performance. Now that’s diversity!
