Former Longhorn Benson Ordered to Get Breathalyzer Device on Car
Former Longhorn running back Cedric Benson was ordered to install an ignition interlock breathalyzer in his car during a court appearance today.
Judge Elisabeth Earle required Benson to have the device installed on his vehicle within 72 hours. The ignition interlock breathalyzer attaches to a car's dashboard, and will not allow the car to start if the driver's breath alcohol content is over a certain amount.
Benson was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated two weeks ago after leaving Kenichi in a silver BMW. A month before that incident, he was charged with boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest on Lake Travis. Neither case has gone to court yet.
After the DWI arrest, the Chicago Bears released Benson from their roster. Benson was a first-round pick of the Bears in 2005 and is the second-leading rusher in Longhorn history.
