In Case You Missed It: Barton Springs Full Moon Swim

During every full moon, regardless of season, the 68-degree water of Barton Springs Pool is taken over promptly at 9 p.m. (when admittance becomes free) by swimmers, dancers and people who like to dry off by dancing.

Rivaling the attendance of any day in March, the Barton Springs Full Moon Night Swim is not only a tradition, but a locally-grown spectacle. During the hour before the pool closes at 10 p.m., whenever anyone feels the need, they let out a bellowing howl at the full moon above, which is soon embraced by the couple hundreds of swimmers in the pool.

In the video above, Flickr user .solo. captured a tidbit of last night's swim at the springs. The band performing was Austin's own Zimbabwe-inspired percussionists, Rattletree. Listen closely for the howls of the hundreds of swimmers wading in the pool.
