East Austin metalheads and punk fiends have a new place to party called The Broken Neck, a converted warehouse space next to River City Automotive that contains ample room for a band, a half-pipe, and a nasty enough bathroom to give Emo’s a run for its money. It’s all legal – the Fire Marshall approved it, and now The Broken Neck is a genuine place to get your face blown off by loud, loud music. Just BYOB – it’s not a bar.
On Friday The Broken Neck is hosting five Texas bands that hail from Houston, San Antonio, and right here in Austin. Humanicide and Dissent are both from H-town, and share several members. After a hiatus in 2007, Humanicide regrouped and continue to play shows, including a planned appearance at the God is Dead Fest in September which will also include Dissent, a band whose metallic punk recently got one guitarist louder and who completed a tour through Mexico with Konflicto just last winter.
Austin’s springy thrash band The Blood Royale is also appearing, as is Doom Siren. San Antonio’s Disempower will make a stop before heading out on a tour across the southeast and parts of Mexico.
