You can dance if you want to: a Dancin’ Double Feature at Paramount’s Summer Film Series

If your dad is anything like ours, he probably hates dudes in tights or pretty much anyone gyrating for the sake of dance. But, perhaps he’ll have the time of his life this Father’s Day for a dancing extravaganza at the Paramount Theater’s Summer Film Series with back-to-back dance film classics, Dirty Dancing and Flashdance. (Yes, the awful puns will continue.)

On Sunday and Monday, the films will battle for which ‘80s dance film reigns supreme as the pseudo-sexiest. Have you seen the chest hair on Michael Nouri?

Flashdance is the triumphant tale of Alex, a macho welder by day and “exotic” dancer by night. She gives all the dudes “whatta feeling” in their trousers during dances with creepy geisha makeup and an über strobe light or sitting in a chair and dousing her taut body with water. But, dammit, she wants to be taken seriously as a ballet dancer and get into a ritzy school (by dancing like a maniac on the floor). Sweatshirt shoulder-cutting and tons of whoopee ensue. Dad will sure to love this!

Perhaps Dad doesn’t like to put baby in a corner? Maybe he’d like to travel back to a simpler time when teenagers weren’t dry humping each other on the dance floor, you know, before Patrick Swayze had cancer. Dirty Dancing chronicles the tale of spoiled Baby (pre-nose job Jennifer Grey) as she takes a vacation in the Catskills with her parents during the ‘60s. Of course, Baby gets the hots for Johnny (pre-cancer and “she’s like the wind” Swayze), the dance instructor from the wrong side of the tracks. Abortions, dirty dancing (duh), and a certain over-the-head lift make this the best summer ever.

Perhaps Pops would merely enjoy a new tool or sweater vest, but we say to truly honor your fathers in the best way possible—with dance!

Showtimes, tickets and more are available at the Paramount's newly-launched Summer Classics Series website!
