Nueva Onda Movie Night: Crossing the Lines
Once a month, Nueva Onda (the only place in town with delicious breakfast tacos and a knight in shining armor) opens its patio to indie-film lovers for a free screening. Tonight’s selection, bearing the provocative title “Crossing the Lines,” consists of four locally-flavored pieces for your viewing pleasure:
- Episode 6 of MTV’s "Austin Stories" - This critically-lauded sitcom can’t be seen anywhere else.
- "The Booth" – A selection at the Austin Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival, this short narrative was written by Gabriela Yepes and Ishai Setton.
- "Sophie’s Story" – An animated fable starring a little boy and a mermaid.
- "Les Malaventures de Zut Alors" – This award-winning animated short employs the use of puppetry and “traditional folk toy mechanisms.'
In addition to watching the show (perhaps with a cold cerveza in hand), this event includes the chance to speak to the filmmakers in attendance. Jeanne Stern, the creator of “Sophie’s Story” and “Les Malaventures de Zut Alors,” will stick around for a Q&A following this hour-long program, so come prepared to ask a few questions about puppeteering, movie-making and more.
Film Night at Nueva Onda provides the chance to see what Austin filmmakers have been up to in a relaxed and friendly setting. The Web site is currently accepting suggestions for future screenings, too, so film buffs and camera-wielders take note.
