Drink And Do Good

American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network fundraiser
Thursday, June 12
The Belmont (305 W. 6th Street)
5:30-7:30pm, $20 Suggested Donation, RSVP appreciated
[info]
Update: We incorrectly suggested below that this event has an open bar. It, in fact, does not. The $20 suggested donation will go entirely toward the nonprofit organization, and a portion of drink sales will most likely be earmarked for them, as well. -- Ed Note

The place to be for Happy Hour this Thursday is The Belmont. For $20 (suggested donation) you can take in the view from the patio, drink to your heart’s content and mingle with your philanthropic peers at the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network fundraiser. Don’t know much about ACS CAN? Well, you should! If you have ever been touched by the effects of cancer, you know that surviving cancer is as related to government legislation as it is medicine and science.

ACS CAN is the American Cancer Society’s non-profit and non-partisan grassroots cancer advocacy organization. Their mission is to empower everyday folk to become active in the fight against cancer. Through education of the public, lawmakers, candidates and media, the network brings national cancer legislation issues down to the state and local level. With such a huge election coming up this November, you can’t afford to be uninformed.

Does "drink to your heart’s content" mean "open bar"?

I'm sure there will be some Camel or Marlboro girls there too asking if you want to sign up for something to get some free smokes. If not, there are sure to be a number or really "hip" people in the courtyard puffing away while telling their sobering stories about how they lost a loved one to cancer.

    But alcohol consumption causes cancer.
