Williamson County Man Shoots Girlfriend's Dog with Bow and Arrow

Central Texas isn't exempt from its share of animal abuse cases, but this recent incident in Cedar Park is one of the more bizarre ones we've come across lately.

Back in mid-May, 48-year-old Kenneth Holder decided to give his girlfriend's dog a bath in the couple's backyard. The German shepherd/Labrador retriever mix, being a dog, was displeased with this plan. And so, when Holder attempted to "forcibly hold [him] down," the canine bit him on the arm.

At this point, Holder probably chose to do the right thing. He went back into the house, intent no doubt on dressing his wound. But then he started drinking. And how.

An hour later, having imbibed himself into a stupor, Holder made a really stupid decision: he decided he'd get his revenge by shooting the dog ... with his bow and arrow.

When the cops arrived, Holder was still "highly intoxicated," as Cedar Park Police Department spokesman Captain Jeff Hayes told the Statesman. The dog, critically injured by Holder's razor-tipped hunting arrow, later had to be euthanized.

Holder was arrested last Wednesday and is now being held at Williamson County Jail. Cruelty to Animals / Kill or Injure is a state felony, punishable by up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
