I am one of the lucky ones that got a ticket. They wanted $250 and 15 hours of community service. My lawyer got it down to $100 and 0 com service.

You can run a red light in your car and pay $75. You can publicly urinate for $120. You can get a speeding ticket for $150..
but JAYWALKING *shutter* is $500.

This city has lost it's focus. Who cares!?! If a person walks out in the street and dies.. It's HIS fault. He made that decision ..

For me, it was 10:30PM on a Tuesday night. No traffic in sight.. ANYWHERE... (downtown Austin is EMPTY on a Tuesday night)..

Still trying to figure out if it'd be really fun to go jaywalk without any form of ID on me.... I think that'd be fun.

Of the 55 or so people that have commented on the Statesman website, it looks like maybe 2 agree with the crackdown on jaywalking and everyone else is pissed off about it so that's good.

$250+15hours for crossing the street when there was no traffic approaching? That's obscene, particularly when you point out what some of the other fines are.

And a quick comment on one of the other stories....Cornyn's such a lousy senator, I am no longer disappointed by anything he does.
