Austinist Indieroke Reminder: This Sunday @ The Mohawk!

As you may have read somewhere, we are launching Phase Two of our almost-monthly Austinist Indieroke shindig this Sunday at 9 p.m. at The Mohawk. The event will take place upstairs on the deck -- please look for the “green light” on 10th St. and enter through there since there is a band (Colour Wheel) and a cover charge downstairs. Hopefully you have already added us as a friend on MySpace since all our nominees in the various contests shall have their sweet face historicized in our “Hall Of Mirrors.” Additionally, each winner’s mug will also be displayed on Austinist the following day. As promised previously, there will be a handful of local rock stars present to serenade us with renditions of their favorites -- Mike Booher (Zykos), Cari Palazzolo (Belaire), and James Petralli (White Denim) are all expected to take the stage during the course of the evening.

Drink Specials? Still on the cards! Choose from possible one-hit wonders like “Common People” (A shot of Jägermeister chased with a Lone Star) or inevitable classics like “Don’t Stop Believin'” (Red Bull and well vodka). Or stick to Mohawk specials like the Tomahawk or Beertunie. There has already been some drama regarding “The Gambler” -- we recommended it as a shot of well whiskey chased with a Jägrbomb but as the name suggests, if you order this one, what you end up with may well be at the mercy of the bartender!

Here is some information on the contests and how those are going to work -- to encourage our patrons to come early, we will be giving away a pair of beers and shots (the Early Bird Prize) to the best performance between 9 and 10 p.m. But that will not disqualify you from winning the Mega Prize later in the evening -- the three main categories are the easily coined sort -- “Best Female Performance”, “Best Male Performance”, and “Best Duet or Group Performance.” Three contestants will be chosen in each of those three categories with the audience deciding the winner around 1 a.m. The Mega Prize for each of the three winners shall include a pair of tickets to a TBD show at The Mohawk, drink tickets, and fame via the “Hall Of Mirrors.” Two runners-up each will receive drink tickets and their picture on the MySpace page records. If you’re confused, don’t worry, just come on down and sing a favorite; we’ll take care of making sure the choice performances are selected for a chance to grab those prizes. Again, the crowd will decide the winner in each category so bring your friends!
