What’s the Deal: This Austin band likely chose this moniker because if dinosaurs all of a sudden pulled off the greatest coups ever and rose from ocean depths to take back the planet, this would be the band they listened to as they stomped feeble humans in highly populated areas. It’s sludgy, hearty and crude. The seven-way brutal noise explosion that is this group just released their debut, Not Noiice, with a sound mixing overlapping primal vocals, music scrapes, distorted chords and pure fun that could encourage either artful interpretive dance or a straight-up slam fest.
With songs like “Finally Grunge,” “123 Pissmop” and “Volcamo,” it’s clear these guys don’t take themselves too seriously, which is a major plus. “It’s Not the Heat, It’s the Humidity” is one of the more catchy songs. And, ‘catchy’ here means there are familiar beats and chords that make your head bounce, and if you could understand the lyrics, you’d be singing them. But, not to worry, it’s still full of noisy, fuzzy rowdiness.
Something Interesting: You MUST see the video for “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity” on YouTube. It features some pretty hilarious parodying of Nirvana’s Unplugged sessions. The set is perfect and the band’s Kurt, Krist and Dave costumes are great. The two Kurts down front keep pulling tufts of their long blonde wigs away from their faces, and there’s even a cellist and accordion player. Keep reading to watch.

What’s the Deal: This is not your usual morning state. It’s not really sluggish, tiresome or loathing the sunlight and every single little bird for chirping the moment the sun breaks the horizon. Although, it might be right for those rare and unusual folks who greet the dawn with a smile and skip in their step. You know, the people who will rouse you in the morning with, “wake up, sleepyhead. You’re wasting the day.” Those type of people would wake up and love the solid, no frills alt. rock of “Out For a Walk” from the Atlanta band’s debut full length, You Know People I Know People, with its high energy and hooky guitar riffs. The song is reminiscent of the Foo Fighters. The title track on the record is more of the same with driving and screeching guitars and forceful choruses.
Something Interesting: After a brief listen, you can hear a touch of the Athens sound, which is no doubt present due to the fact that early on the band was split between there and Atlanta.
