The band first surfaced a year and a half ago when a website went up and songs were made available to download. One of the tracks, "Mother Mary," eventually reached number sixteen on the billboard charts, though we wonder how much play it got in Austin because we don't remember it at all.
Foxboro Hot Tubs, who have explained their name as "...a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night ... but most of the time it was just 'dude soup,' " released their first album, Stop, Drop and Roll this past Tuesday. They've since embarked on a quicky of a national tour that has thoughtfully included a stop here in Austin.
Tickets for the show will only be available at the door. They're $20 cash, with a two-ticket maximum per person. For a band that sells out arenas on a regular basis, seeing them on the small stage at Emo's is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity at this point and not to be missed.

Apparently it's already sold out? That's the word.
I'm curious. Did they play and how were they?
They did sell out very quickly but the show was fantastic. Green Day/Foxboro Hot Tubs are a well-oiled machine after this many years of touring, but nothing came off overly rehearsed or planned. It was high-energy with a lot of Billie Joe stage-diving and crowd-surfing as he sang. Supposedly there were 300 people there but it did not seem that crowded. They ended their set with "A Quick One While He's Away" by the Who (you know, the one w/ "You Are Forgiven" repeated over and over)and invited everyone up on the stage. Clearly not everyone could fit, but they tried anyway.
All in all, a terrific set.
