Sports Roundup: Spurs Advance, UT Men's Tennis Team Plays for National Title

With defense and guile, the San Antonio Spurs held on for a 91-82 Game 7 victory Monday over the New Orleans Hornets to advance to the NBA's Western Conference finals.

The Spurs will go on the road to face the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers when the conference finals begin Wednesday.

The home team had won each of the previous six games in the semifinals before the Spurs broke through against the Hornets. It was also San Antonio's first Game 7 road win ever, and it capped off their first successful comeback after trailing two games to none in a playoff series.

Manu Ginobili scored 26 points to lead the team, hitting clutch free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Tony Parker finished with 17 points, while Tim Duncan had 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Longhorn men to play in NCAA tennis finals

The Texas men's tennis team upset third-seeded UCLA, 4-2, on Monday, to advance to its first NCAA championship match.

The seventh-ranked Longhorns (25-5) will play defending champion Georgia (24-2) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The No. 3 Bulldogs advanced to the finals by defeating No. 1 Virginia, 4-3, handing the Cavaliers their first loss of the season.

The Longhorns' victory was punctuated by singles wins from Dimitar Kurtovsky, Miguel Reyes Varela and Luis Diaz Barriga.
