81-Year-Old Man Dies After Receiving 50 Bee Stings

There is little detail about what happened Saturday morning after the Austin Police Department received a call for a deceased person at a home near Burnet and West Anderson Lane. When police arrived, they found 81-year-old Richard Moxley lying on his bathroom floor. He was discovered by his wife, who phoned police. Emergency crews attempted unsuccessfully to revive the man because it was first thought that Moxley may have had a heart attack.

An autopsy at the funeral home revealed over 50 bee stings on the man’s head, neck and chest. Earlier that day, Moxley had been mowing his lawn but police have not determined “whether the bee stings caused or contributed to the decedent’s death.” Family members have stated that they are unaware of any problems with bees on Moxley’s property. The APD investigation continues.
