Paramount Classic Film Series Kicks Off This Week

We're too old to have a proper sense of the seasons any more, but we figure it must be summer, because a) there was minimal traffic on 35 this morning and b) The Paramount Theatre's 2008 Summer Classic Film Series kicks off this Thursday with a double-shot of Bogey and, er, a single shot of Travlota! Huzzah!

Perennial Bogart classics Casablanca and Key Largo (which, we assume, need no preamble) will kick things off, while the feel-good summertime musical Grease rounds out the weekend.

There isn't a comprehensive resource for all the films yet, but you can browse the Paramount's calendar for the full schedule. At first glance, some of the standouts include the Roman Polanski classics Chinatown and Repulsion, the Hitchcock chillers The Birds, Vetigo, Rear Window and Psycho, Peter Bogdanovich's coming-of-age drama The Last picture Show, Otto Preminger's courtroom classic Anatomy of a Murder, and Andrei Tarkovksy's strange slash awesome space epic Solaris. Among many others, of course.

Flix-Tix booklets (10 admissions for $45) are available for purchase through the magic of the interweb, and for the first time (we think) you can even buy tickets online for individual screenings. Summer plus movies equals awesome, don't you think?
