Snapshots: Bonde Do Role Make You Sweat

Bonde Do Role is a hot, sweaty mess. Setting the stage with the opening bars of the Indiana Jones theme, the band went on an adventure through the land of synthfunksamplehop while being chased by sweaty, sweaty headband wearing hipsters who were all too willing to worship at the temple of booty shakin' bass. What do you do with a song called “Bondallica”? You slay your adoring crowd with it, of course. With a set full of covers and songs off their singles and album “With Lasers” the band lit the floor on fire with low-fi drum machine samples and booty bass beats. Touring with two new vocalists selected on a Brazilian MTV reality show, Ana Bernardino and Laura Taylor, Bonde Do Role should have had an awkward stage chemistry not unlike a first date hook-up. Laura, all black Satin and whirling blonde-red hair and Ana, a kinetic mess of sequins and screaming blue spandex came off as having toured with the band since the very beginning. Even if you left your Portuguese phrasebook at home the songs themselves hold together like a Car Stereo Wars mash-up, all low-fi drum machine loops and throwback samples. Maybe the break beats and hair-metal guitar samples take you back to a primordial state before humans developed language and just danced.
