Speaking of local bands gallivanting all over the world doing cool things on the internet, Okkervil River made a pitstop with Pitchfork.tv for their Don't Look Down series, performing a patient version of "Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe" as well as two other songs. Bill Callahan also stopped by the show, playing "Cold Blooded Old Times" and two others from 2007's Woke on a Whaleheart.
In 1998, the Red Bull Music Academy was created as a platform for those who shape our musical future. Since then, over 450 guest lecturers like Peter Hook of New Order, Just Blaze (producer for hip hop heavyweights like Jay-Z and Kanye West) and many more have taken part in seminars and workshops which give young music makers near you to swap thoughts and notes with a musical luminary. They're accepting applications for this year's workshops, one of which will be held in Austin. Apply by visiting the Web site, the deadline is May 19.
Austin's The Black & White Years are touring to support their latest release, a self-titled effort produced by Talking Heads' Jerry Harrison. They're opening for the Presidents of the United States of America, and the dates are right here.
Autobus Records has a variety of exciting things happening, including an EP by Canopy (Praveen Ayyagari), a tour by Bill Baird as {{{Sunset}}} and Will Patterson's (ex-Sound Team) solo project, titled Jungle Box.
