Austinist Giveaway: Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks

If your indie-snob resume is complete, you have a section outlining your personal thesis on Pavement. Most folks -- even those that never really got into the records -- have a hard time arguing against the undeniable influence Malkmus & Co. had over just about everything we listen to now.

Upon their demise, fans swarmed to message boards online, speculating reunions and rumors with rabid devotion. It didn't take long for Malkmus to resurface with a solo effort, and then another. This year's highly anticipated release with his new band, the Jicks, has SM on the road again, jamming long-form prog-inspired guitar rock with new songs from Real Emotional Trash, a handful of older songs, and all this with a brand new mustache, in between spurts of pissing off Kim Deal.

Ah, fatherhood.
