There was the unexpected acoustic Decemberists set. Then there was the sudden Spoon gig. This Sunday, The Mohawk revives this exciting tradition with a surprise show featuring Bill Callahan. Callahan first came into prominence under the Smog moniker; his collection of work from previous decades has stood the test of time while 2005's A River Ain't Too Much to Love is quite simply a masterpiece. In April of last year, Drag City released Woke on a Whaleheart; you can read our review here.

Fresh off his recent Southern tour with friends and bandmates Jonathan Meiburg and Thor Harris, Callahan has perhaps realized that Austin was conspicuously missing from that jaunt.

Sunday's event could turn out to be a magical evening and we have a pair of tickets for you! Follow the jump for your chance to be there and check out a wonderful performance of "Vessel in Vain" from Bill Callahan's appearance on KUT's Retread Sessions while you're at it!

May tickets be purchased in advance for this? Going to the Mohawk site and the frontgate site makes it appear that one cannot.
