So, let me get this straight. Austinist can link to articles, basically PROMOTING THEM, that bash SXSW, but can't allow their own writers to write something similar.

"Not all the parties realized that TABC's jurisdiction does NOT cover private parties as long as the organizers keep a list of all attendees." This must explain why many of the big non-SXSW parties are RSVP only. Smart . . .

I had an interesting chat on Sunday with a long-time event organizer and planner who corroborated several other stories about TABC being called on the parties this year. Apparently they showed up at the Red Bull party and a few others trying to shut them down. Not all the parties realized that TABC's jurisdiction does NOT cover private parties as long as the organizers keep a list of all attendees. Next year it'll be building inspectors.
