Greenlight Awards: I Want My Digital TV

Sunday night we dropped by ON Network's Greenlight Awards party at SIX. The celebration honored the lucky finalists in a contest that seeks "the next best, original Digital TV Series." We enjoyed some tasty snacks and a drink or two, and spied several of the fine actors from the final five productions. You can watch the pilots, all of which are potentially addictive, online. Descriptions after the jump. We can't decide which we like best, though we have two clear favorites.

The contest is not only for a complete production, but also for Best Original Digital Series Idea. Among other finalists in that category are gems Kelly and Sally Jackson, who have pitched a series based on the misadventures of The Midlife Gals.

The judges are luminaries from across the entertainment industry, including Richard Linklater, Luke Wilson, and Randall Dark. Winners in both categories will be announced at the SXSW Film Awards, tonight at the Convention Center at 6pm.

Finalists for Best Original Digital Series Production:

  • The Bobble Show – A news & entertainment interview show starring bobble heads.

  • The Guild – A comedy about six computer role-playing game addicts and their interactions online...and more significantly in the "physical realm".

  • Small Bits of Happiness – A dark comedy series about Ned Reynold and his successful mom-and-pop suicide prevention company; if Ned can make you happy for 30 seconds, maybe you can be happy for the rest of your life.

  • Wingmen – A documentary film crew follows a group of young men through the rise and fall of their popular radio talk show and shifty dating service.

  • You Can Awesome! – A lost kids show from 1984 that's really only slightly more bizarre than the kids shows of today.
