Austin Tests Negative For Drugs In Water

A recent Associate Press survey indicates that pharmaceuticals ranging from antibiotics, anti convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones are found the drinking water supplies in 24 major metropolitan areas. According to the report:
The presence of so many prescription drugs — and over-the-counter medicines like acetaminophen and ibuprofen — in so much of our drinking water is heightening worries among scientists of long-term consequences to human health. In the course of a five-month inquiry, the AP discovered that drugs have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas — from Southern California to Northern New Jersey, from Detroit to Louisville.

Austin was one of only 3 cities that tested negative. Dallas results are still pending. While protocols of the tests varied, at least one pharmaceutical was detected in each of the cities that tested positive. One more sustainability point for Austin - CLEAN WATER!!

    Oh, pharmaceutical drugs...

    This is my favorite line:

"Arlington, Texas, acknowledged that traces of a pharmaceutical were detected in its drinking water but cited post-9/11 security concerns in refusing to identify the drug."

9/11 - A scape goat we can get behind!
